As co-founder and Director, Michele Bryant Barr sees the wonderful impact adoption has, and she only has to look as far as her own family.
Michele, a Gainesville native and graduate of the University of Florida, has more than eight years of experience working with women, children and families in crisis. The co-founder of the agency is her husband Matt Barr, who recently retired after a 27-year career with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. Adopted as an infant himself, he always knew how special adoption was but understood the full impact with the adoption his own son in 1999.
“We understand the dreams to have a child and the struggles with infertility,” Michele said. “We have been there. We want adoption to be a realistic option for families.” The agency was licensed in 2007 with the goal of helping other families achieve the dream of bringing home their own little “miracle.”
The compassionate staff honors the love and courage it takes for birthmothers to place their children with an adoption agency and counsels them on their options and resources. While the agency works with families and birthmothers from all over the country, they limit the number of adoptive families; this enables the staff to become personally acquainted with each client.
