Nailing just the right look

Laura Campos has been a licensed nail professional for over 15 years. Her award-winning work has been published in national trade publications such as “Nailpro” and “NAILS.” Her dedication to her craft is evident.

“I take continuing education classes and attend trade shows to keep current with the latest trends in nail care,” she said.

While the most popular request from her clients is the “Pink and White Enhancement” that gives the look of a French manicure, Campos said that customers have asked for all sorts of designs. Materials such as glitter, colored acrylic and even crushed shells are used to create varying looks.

“I was once asked to do a ‘salt-andpepper’ pattern for someone who loves to cook,” she said.

Other favorites include Gator colors and a Tom Petty logo that spans three nail surfaces.

“I’ll create whatever the customer wants,” Campos said with a laugh, “except garnet and gold or orange and green!”

In addition to serving her customers, Campos is dedicated to helping other technicians. She is an educator for the Vicki Peters Signature Series product line as well as an instructor for the Kupa Electric File Certification (KEFC), authorizing her to certify technicians for electric-file use.

Service times vary from one to two hours or more, depending on the variety of design. Service prices range from $30 and up, also depending on the design.

An extension of your personality

While Georgia Arrington has been a stylist since 1989, for the past four years, she has been specializing in hair extensions. What most people don’t realize, she said, is that extensions aren’t just for special occasions; anyone who wants longer, thicker and fuller hair can benefit. They’re also a good way to add highlights or lowlights to your hair without the use of chemicals and can help you gracefully grow out an unsatisfactory haircut without the dreaded inbetween growth stage.

Arrington employed an extension system that only uses 100 percent human hair of the highest quality. The extensions are selected by color and texture to blend perfectly with your hair, even if it is permed, naturally curly or highlighted, and attached using a keratin bond, which is the same protein found in human hair. As a result, the extensions feel more natural, and they’re easy to maintain. You can handle them just as you would your own hair; swimming, styling and other activities won’t have any effect on them. The extensions will last for three to five months before needing readjustment because of hair growth.

Arrington has also done custom clip-on extensions for weddings, proms and other special occasions as well as for people who just want a little change every now and then. She invites new customers to come in for a free consultation.
