MOST PEOPLE think of their air-conditioning and heating system as a means to keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. However, Jim Bertie, owner of Bertie Heating and Air Conditioning, thinks of those systems as much more. “We use our expertise to create a clean and comfortable home environment by using the proper equipment for each customer.”

Though Bertie Heating and Air Conditioning has been serving builders and homeowners in and around Gainesville since 1991, Jim Bertie has been in the business since he was eighteen years old. “I learned a lot from the people I worked with back then, but perhaps the most important thing I learned, was to do what you say you’re going to do and stand behind your work. That’s how I run my business.”

That philosophy is apparent in Bertie’s approach to sales. Representing every manufacturer of heating and air conditioning equipment, all estimates for new systems include a heating and cooling load calculation. “We use a sophisticated computer program to determine the exact heating and cooling needs for each customer. Then we can recommend the equipment that will do the job most efficiently,” says Bertie. “I check every sale before it moves forward to make sure everything has been done correctly and the right recommendation has been made to the customer.”

That same approach to quality is taken with service. Aside from providing warranty and repair work on any manufacturer’s products, the newly expanded maintenance department at Bertie can ensure that a system is running at maximum efficiency.

“A dirty, poorly maintained system can actually increase a customer’s electric bill by thirty percent,” says Bertie. “So we offer a service where we not only check the system, we clean it up and make it run like new.” As a result, the customer often notices an immediate difference, not only in the operation of their system, but in a lower electric bill. Bertie’s also features a showroom where people can come by and see equipment in operation before they buy it. Or, they can talk to a staff member about some of the other products and services offered, such as: UV cleaning to kill germs and molds, or their exceptional filter systems that can dramatically reduce airborne particles in the home.

“If you think about it,” says Bertie, “we spend an awful lot of time in our homes. What I want to do is to create, not only the most comfortable, but the cleanest and most efficient home environment for my customers. G
