the art of dining. ISRAEL KARASIK's STYLE
“Fresh, quality ingredients are the key to creating a memorable dish,” says Israel, of Dinner Restaurant in Thornebrook Village. Utilizing quality vendors, Israel’s insistence on the best is a testament to his passion for his art. Where does he find these ingredients?
Israel utilizes many local vendors such as Sacred Soil (fresh, organic herbs); Gainesville Blueberry Farm (seasonal berries, potatoes, and vegetables); Spring Hill Ranch (fresh eggs); Sweetwater Coffee (roasted and ground fresh daily); Boston Seafood for fresh seafood flown in regularly; and, Rainbow Produce and Possum Hollow for local, organic vegetables. Israel’s fresh pasta is created from scratch as needed, and the menu changes along with the availability of fresh ingredients. So, each visit is a new experience.
If the dishes are the art, then the canvas is the venue in which they are displayed and enjoyed. In this case, Dinner has the ambiance and atmosphere to match the cuisine. With an intimate inside dining room and a newly renovated and enlarged outside patio, enjoying dinner at Dinner is as memorable as any museum experience—well, certainly more satisfying to the palate.
In case you’re already a Dinner fan, you may have noticed that the downtown location has closed. According to Dinner’s owners, this was based on their decision to put all their efforts into the Thornebrook location—expanding the outdoor area, adding live entertainment and events, and allowing Chef Israel to continue providing the best of the best in a quieter atmosphere.
In fact, Dinner is the only place in town where you can enjoy true international cuisine while taking in the temperate Florida climate—day or night— nearly year round. Beginning in October, there will be quiet, soothing jazz music on the patio on Fridays and Saturdays. This is a perfect time and place for date night or just to treat your self to a memorable dining experience.
Not sure what to expect on the patio? Well, Dinner’s wooden patio is nestled in the middle of Thornebrook Village Square, private yet with lots of room to breathe. You can dine under the stars or on the veranda under the red and white canopy a la Toscana. Tables have ample room and umbrellas to filter sunsets. The entire patio is surrounded by potted plants, and at night, strings of strung white lights line the fence adding a festive atmosphere. Outside or in, the “curators” of Chef Israel’s art, a.k.a. the wait staff, are knowledgeable, friendly, and experienced. No glass stays empty for too long, and with an extensive wine list, this is truly a good thing. After one visit, you’ll agree with the Dinner motto: “Fine wine, fine dining, finally!” G
