THE EXPRESSION often heard is “Why go anywhere else when you can go to the best?” The sentiment is true in medicine as well. That’s why, when people in North Florida are considering reconstructive or cosmetic surgery of the face, there is only one alternative that makes sense – the Facial Plastic Surgery Center at the University of Florida. Many difficult cases from within the state are transferred to this facility because of its outstanding reputation.

Under the direction of Dr. Jack Sedwick, the center offers a full range of facial plastic surgery, including dermabrasion, chemical peels, botox, facelifts, brow lifts, eyelid surgery and reconstruction of cancer surgery. In addition, they perform sinus surgery and treat congenital malformations in children. “We offer a broad range of noninvasive procedures,” he said. Dr. Sedwick and the staff at the Facial Plastic Surgery Center also specialize in post-trauma reconstructive surgery. “It is often difficult for people to deal with the reality that sets in after an accident,” he said. “We try to make it as easy as possible for people to deal with these very difficult times.”

With excellent qualifications to perform surgeries, Dr. Sedwick has received several honors and awards for work in his field, had a number of publications and given several presentations. He spent five years in Otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, as a resident at the University of Florida. Dr. Sedwick then trained in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery as a fellow at the University of Miami. He now is a member of the faculty in the Department of Otolaryngology, and is Chief of the Division of Facial Plastic Surgery at the University of Florida.

While Dr. Sedwick personally performs all of the cosmetic surgeries for his patients; he values the latest feedback of new procedures with Residents. “UF is an enormous institution with tremendous resources,” he recognized. “We do cutting-edge treatment and research. We are literally training the doctors of tomorrow and, through lectures, we are helping doctors who are practicing in the community, learn the latest techniques. We are practicing medicine at the highest level, and using the most current science.”

“I was originally trained in medicine at the University of Florida during my surgery internship and head and neck surgery residency. I would not have been brought back to UF, if we weren’t offering something very special for the patients,” he acknowledged.

With Dr. Sedwick’s background, credentials and experience to consider, it is understandable why so many patients, in need of reconstructive or cosmetic facial surgery, do not consider going anywhere else but the Facial Plastic Surgery Center at the University of Florida. G
