Opening the Door to Excellent Service

MOST subcontractors in the building industry are always looking for a big project – landing the job with the developer building numerous homes at one time. While it’s true that John and Jennifer Pruitt have developments, their bread and butter – the thing that puts smiles on their faces – is the work they do with homeowners.
With 16 years experience in the garage door industry, the Pruitts, who started Alachua Door Company in January of 2002, focus their business on helping individuals and families. “We direct our services to the homeowner,” said John Pruitt. “We will help you choose the type of door that best suits your needs, while also adding to your home’s curb appeal. When it’s time to replace a door, we will come out and give you an estimate at no charge. A lot of what we do is remove that old broken- down or rotten wood door, and replace it with a modern, low-maintenance garage door. Or, if repair or service of your existing door is all you need, we work on all brands.”
Alachua Door Company also works closely with owner/builders to help them select the right door for their new home. Not only do they offer garage doors and openers with lifetime warranties, Clopay, the brand sold by Alachua Door Company, is the only garage door in the industry to come with the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. This essentially provides a second warranty to the homeowner. All Clopay doors are designed and approved to withstand the rigors of Florida weather.
However, it’s more than the quality of the door that makes Alachua Door Company unique. “We are very proud of the service aspect of our business,” said Jennifer Pruitt. “Not only will we install your garage door, but more importantly, we guarantee continued service. Our customer base runs from Gainesville to the Gulf of Mexico. No matter what the distance, we provide each customer with a minimum, one-year labor warranty. We are firm believers in excellent service after the sale.”
Like any piece of mechanical equipment, garage doors – the most used door on the house – do require regular maintenance and periodic service.
While Alachua Door Company works primarily with individual families, the firm does have relationships with builders who reflect the same kind of philosophy about customer service. Alachua Door Company is installing the garage doors for Heritage Oaks being built in Alachua by American Construction & Development Co., LLC (the subject of this month’s cover story).
Cindy Curtis, of American Construction & Development, says working with Alachua Door Company was an obvious choice. “They are nice people, and are really great to work with,” she said. “They are very responsive to our needs. They’re starting with the new steel carriage-house door on one of our models for the Parade of Homes, and they are being very diligent about getting those done for us on time. We’re here in Alachua, and so are they, so it makes sense to work together. The most important thing is that they provide a quality door, and we are all about quality.”
While residential garage doors are a main focus of Alachua Door Company, they are not the only focus. John, who also installs LiftMaster® garage door and gate operators, provides expert service and installation on any commercial door application.
For the Pruitts and Alachua Door Company, the goal is quality customer service and longevity. “We’re a family owned business, and I was born here,” said John. “That makes me different from my competition. Also, we’re trying to create something for our sons for the future. They certainly like the idea of the business. They’re just not sure yet about the work.”
The boys, 11 and 4, have plenty of time to learn a work ethic by watching the example set by their parents. G For more information about Alachua Door Company, its products and services, call (386) 418-0100 to discuss your door needs, visit the showroom, or go online to www.AlachuaDoorCompany.com
