The Best of Lasting Beauty in Your Kitchen

Dealing with Quartz Solutions turned out to be one surprise after another for Karla Hampton and her husband, Dr. Troy Hampton – all of them good.

The Hamptons were remodeling their southwest Gainesville home in November – a project that included new kitchen counter tops. They wanted granite for an island in the middle of the kitchen and the main counter tops. But they didn’t want the headaches that came with granite.

“We have small children and their friends are over a lot,” said Karla Hampton. “That makes for a lot of wear and tear. We didn’t want something that was going to stain and crack, and that we were going to have to reseal every year. Fortunately we found Quartz Solutions. They solved our problem.”

Stephen Trachtenberg, the owner of Quartz Solutions, says the problem facing the Hamptons is all too common. “Granite is beautiful,” he said. “My customers love it. But it’s not for everyone.”

The Hamptons are a perfect example of people who want granite but are much better suited for quartz. “Granite requires a lot of maintenance, even more when you have children. Quartz is bacteria-free, and it can’t stain or scratch. It’s 100 percent maintenancefree. We want to make sure that our customers are buying the right product, and we’re the only company in North Central Florida that can do that because we’re the only company that offers an extensive line of quartz and granite. We work with our customers. We give them the knowledge and power to make the decision that is right for them.”

Quartz Solutions did one more good thing for the Hamptons. “They looked at our needs and suggested the quartz,” she said. “We have counter tops that are functional for us, but we also have beautiful counter tops. We had ours done in November, and we have already referred three more people to them. That’s how satisfied we are.”

The Hamptons were also thrilled with the professionalism of Quartz Solutions. “When you’re dealing with remodeling, you learn to make appointments, and then have the contractor not show up,” Hampton said. “I had another company make three appointments and never show up. But for Quartz Solutions the customer service was outstanding. They did their job, and went the extra mile. They were here when they said they would be, and they did what they said they would do. That’s really out of the ordinary in the remodeling business.”

The great thing about Quartz Solutions is that the company can provide all the same outstanding customer service for big projects as well. Just ask Chip Howe of Howe Development, currently building 43 new homes at the Cottages at Millhopper Forest. This is the third and final phase of the project, and unlike the previous sections, Howe Development is building all 43.

“Quartz Solutions has been doing all of the quartz kitchen counter tops,” Howe said. “The response by the homeowners has been excellent. From a builder’s standpoint, they have been very professional. That is something that is critical for us because we can’t complete other phases, like the plumbing. We make a commitment to the homeowner, and then we are relying on other contractors to fulfill that commitment. Beyond timeliness though, the quality of their work has been excellent. The homeowner works out the design with them, and within a couple of weeks of measuring, we can get the counter tops in.”

Trachtenberg says there’s no secret to exceptional customer service and quality products. The products come out of the ground, he said. “The granite is natural. It is straight out of the ground. The quartz is mined and combined with polyester to create manmade quartz. But I’m the only one around here that can do what we do with it.”

It starts with his 22,000-square-foot facility on three acres in Starke that he’s been in since June. “We have four times the manufacturing base than we used to have,” he said. “But more important than that, we have a technologically advanced facility designed for the growth of the North Florida community.”

As a result, when a customer arrives, he or she has big slabs of granite and quartz to see and feel. “We don’t have to work from a brochure,” he said.

However there’s more to the facility than size. “We have a 100 percent computerized facility,” Trachtenberg said. “What that means is that the customer can pick a slab. We make a template of the design and create a digital file.”

Then the computer-programmed design guides the saw. “Our saw can spin 360 degrees,” he said. “That means we can design anything. This $250,000 computer-numeric-controlled machine ($300,000 with all the tools) gives us a major advantage over our competitors. They just can’t do what we can. I’ve brought rocket science to the rock business.”

Another feature of the new facility is that it’s clean. “We’re EPA compliant,” he said. “We use a lot of water, and 100 percent of the water in the plant is recycled. We only replace for evaporation.”

There are two more significant benefits of working with Quartz Solutions. The company also distributes designer sinks and faucets themselves, allowing them to offer the customer significant discount off of retail prices. That also means a customer doesn’t have to go somewhere else, pick out a sink and then start working with Quartz Solutions. Also, since Trachtenberg is a certified general contractor, he can remove the old sink and put in the new one.

“As a result, we’re a one-stop shop,” he said. “That means it’s more costeffective to come here.”

Trachtenberg believes that with his facility, equipment, quality products and reputation for customer service, Quartz Solutions is the answer for anyone thinking of granite or quartz count- er or table tops. “The bottom line is that if you can dream it up, we can make the design in granite or quartz.” he said. “If you draw it, we can make it.”
