Crystal N' Crates
The specialty shop creates custom-made, hand-painted crystal wine glasses for any special occasion, displayed in a wooden crate. All of the crystal is imported from France, and all the designs are unique, one-of-akind paintings. The concept is the brainchild of Lauré Regan.
Fortunately for Regan, her daughter-in-law, Melissa Akey, hired Katie Kelly to paint wine glasses as Christmas gifts. They quickly discovered Kelly’s unique skill.
“Before long I had her painting wine and champagne glasses for all my friends,” Regan said. “I love the glasses. My friends love the glasses. So we decided to create a partnership and open the shop.”
Regan, who with her family owns Grill Masters, Steak & Pasta Works and Northwest Grille, found the spot for Kelly’s shop next to Steak & Pasta Works.
”We created an atmosphere like the artsy shops you find on the beach,” Regan said.” It’s filled with artwork created by Katie and other local artists. When people come in they are very surprised. People have bought gifts for all sorts of special occasions. I think it’s one of Gainesville’s best-kept secrets.”
Kelly says she knows they’re doing something special based on customers’ reactions. “We’ve gotten calls from people after they received their gifts to tell us how much they appreciated the creativity, and how unique the gift was,” she said. “We are the only shop in town that can custom paint your idea on glass.”
